47. To Drop Dead or Not

I have been thinking about dying a lot lately. I have my preferences about how my life ends, but ultimately I don’t have much say in how it happens. And what is it like after we die? For now, I am ok with the mystery of of it all.

Now That You Ask is a podcast that looks at topics that range from death to desire, and from wondrous to downright whacky. Join host, Akasha Halsey as she takes listeners on a journey through her writing and experience with life’s most persistent questions.

Thank you for listening!

Funny, I have been surrounded by death this past year — other people’s, not my own — and have decided I really don’t like it. I went to the funeral of a woman I didn’t even know yesterday. Her husband is a sweet old man in my church and I just had to go to pay my respects to him, not to his wife. And driving in the funeral cortege, I found myself weeping at the wheel of my car, remembering the long drive to the cemetery behind my brother’s hearse, and then again to bury my mother in Kansas, and then just recently up to Madison, WI to bury a dear friend from my graduate school days. Death has been on my mind too, my friend, as I realize that my own is closer than anything else. Weird to think that, isn’t it? Like you, I hope my death creeps in on little cat’s feet, rather like the fog rolling in over the Golden Gate. I guess we all hope for that, don’t we? Sending love and hopes that you have many, many more years to work on your self-improvement. 🙂

Yes, Akasha, like Marti, I want you to keep on self improving for many years to come! Though with humor and humility, you address important subjects, death leading the list. I recommend a great book on death, The Beginners Guide to the End. It covers everything you might want to know in a straight forward, no nonsense style.
