Returning to my hometown of Huntsville, Alabama, after a decade felt like embarking on a “farewell tour.” The changes I saw during this visit were staggering. My grandfather's store, along with many beloved landmarks, seemed on the verge of being swallowed by rapid modernization. Despite the drastic transformations, pockets of my past persisted and brought comfort and a chance for reflection. This journey reaffirmed that farewells don't always have to be laden with sadness. Sometimes, they can usher in a surprising warmth, blending bittersweet memories of the past with the promise of the future.

What a lovely piece, Akasha. I’m glad you had a good experience returning to Huntsville after so long. I assume you saw your sisters but, well, maybe not. If you did, I hope that part of your visit filled you with the same warmth and lightness that the duck pond provided. Miss you, my friend.
