214. Sweet Nancy

In the tapestry of life, pets often become the threads that weave our moments of joy and comfort. This is a story of Sweet Nancy, a beloved feline companion who, along with her brother Sid, became an integral part of my life 18 years ago. Though they claimed their territories within my home with Sid being the social butterfly and Nancy preferring the solitude of a back bedroom sanctuary. They both left indelible paw prints on my heart. Nancy’s cunning ways, like her clever escape from Sid’s playful pursuits, showcased her unique personality, which gradually softened over time as she recognized me as a source of love and care. Our nightly routines and conversations became a cherished part of my day, with her curling up next to me as I recounted my daily experiences, always ending with a loving affirmation of her beauty. In her later years, she faced challenges that led to difficult decisions, and while the journey was heart-wrenching, I found solace in knowing her playful spirit and unyielding love will remain with me always. Today, I honor Sweet Nancy with a special altar, keeping her memory bright in my home and heart, until I’m ready to bid a final farewell and cherish all the love she shared with me.

Oh, Akasha. I was afraid that’s what this essay was about. I’m so sorry you have lost Nancy. As you know, I know personally of that awful decision and the terrible sense of emptiness your loss will cause. I still feel my first kitty, Flower, jump up on my bed every once in awhile and I lost her in NYC in 1977! So I share your pain and send you lots of love and hugs as you deal with Nancy’s passing. Oh Akasha, so beautiful. Deeply touched and at peace with her passing. I hope you are too my dear friend. Every time I looked at her I smiled. She was so cute it made my heart happy. Glad I got to know her.
