79 years old. This number has me reflecting on all the poignant and humorous milestones of my life, from the excitement of turning 21 and 30 to the unique celebrations and realizations at 40, 50, and 60. I kind of love that my search for new adventures and thrills is unwavering despite the passage of time. Looking for “thrills” at 79!
Seems to me a benefit of growing up is to look at other rewards of the privileges of having lived a long life: more empathy; more curiousity; better communication; more congenial friends and associates; effective critical thinking and some useful skepticism about what is usually taken for granted.
So many people, friends and neighbors in their 70s or more, can think only about their expectations of living a second adolescence. The “bucket list” brigade is how I think of them.
